51 Kenyans Head to Oxford and Cambridge: Our Largest Cohort Yet

This year, 51 Kenyans are heading to Oxford and Cambridge to pursue postgraduate degrees, including Master’s and doctoral programmes, the highest number ever.

As the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Kenya, we are immensely proud of their achievement. In the year in which our Society celebrates its 100th anniversary, this remarkable cohort is a fitting testament to the longstanding relationship between Kenya, the wider African continent and Oxford and Cambridge.

We are particularly grateful to the British High Commission in Kenya for hosting a farewell reception for Kenyan students heading to the UK. What an extraordinary and, frankly, rather intimidatingly impressive group of young Kenyans. Among them are new recipients of the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships, alongside many others embarking on exciting academic journeys.

Meeting them was a wonderful reminder of the extraordinary talent, ambition and potential of Kenya’s next generation. We wish every one of them tremendous success as they begin this new chapter.

And the celebrations continue. On 10 October, we will mark 100 years of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Kenya in London, with the kind support of the Kenyan High Commission in the UK.

A century of connections, friendships and scholarship, and now a new generation beginning its own Oxbridge journey.
